The Project

The design had to embrace the quirks of the building’s original structure, including ceiling beams that cut across the room and a vertical support beam passing through the floor. Rather than conceal these features, the Salacia design team embraced them as opportunity to create a layout that felt purposeful and balanced.

Our Solution

The completed bathroom has three statement features - a bespoke vanity, a walk-in shower, and a freestanding bath, all carefully positioned to make the most of the room’s shape, light, and character.

Bespoke Vanity Unit

Custom-built by Salacia using their painted finish in colour Nomad, the floor-standing vanity combines practical storage with fine craftsmanship. Reeded drawer fronts and dovetailed drawers on soft-close runners add tactile detail, while the unit was precision-cut to accommodate the undermount basin and waste. The unit also features a bespoke quartz vanity top and LED lights installed under the bottom drawers which light up automatically as you approach the vanity.

The choice of the Nomad green ties the cabinetry into the home’s period feels, while warm metallic hardware creates a bridge between old and new.

Design Notes

The shower walls feature Ca’Pietra Foundry Porcelain Smeraldo tiles in a herringbone pattern, bringing depth and a botanical feel to the space.

The Samuel Heath antique matte brass Landmark brassware delivers a refined showering experience, with a fixed overhead and handheld showerheads for both indulgence and practicality.

The Kudos Connect 2 shower tray and drainage system  was chosen for the flexibility of the waste positioning to avoid the floor joists, as well as the slimline profile and a subtle anti slip coating ensuring the space works as beautifully as it looks.

Freestanding Bath

The bath’s slightly off-centre placement was a deliberate response to the room’s existing beams, bringing it into alignment with the eave windows and maximising the natural light. This also created a focal point for the floor-mounted mixer tap, whose warm bronze finish complements the exposed timber and adds a touch of sculptural elegance.

The Salacia Approach

This bathroom is a showcase of Salacia’s design ethos: balancing our dedication to personalised luxury with technical problem-solving.

  • Structural constraints became opportunities to create visual harmony
  • A carefully chosen colour palette of heritage green, warm metallics and crisp white makes the room feel timeless yet contemporary
  • Layered textures - from reeded cabinetry to glazed tiles, add visual interest without overwhelming the space
  • Fixture placement was guided by light, sightlines, and ease of movement, ensuring the room feels generous and intuitive to use

The result is a master bathroom that is inviting, functional, and effortlessly in tune with its setting proof that a considered design can respect a building’s history while delivering all the comfort and luxury of a modern home.
