The Project
Blean is a development of 92 homes by Fernham Homes, set between Canterbury and Whitstable on the edge of Blean Woods National Nature Reserve. The development combines traditional red-brick and timber-clad architecture with light, well-considered interiors, creating homes that sit naturally within their surroundings.
The development comprises 66 private three and four-bedroom homes alongside 26 affordable housing units available under the shared ownership scheme.
Salacia was appointed to specify and supply the bathroom packages across all 92 plots.
The Brief
Fernham Homes were looking for a bathroom specification that felt cohesive and well-finished across a range of house types. Quality, practicality and a clean contemporary finish were central to the brief, with each home designed to feel genuinely ready to live in from the moment the keys are handed over.
Each of the 92 plots was specified with the same core package: a cloakroom, an en-suite and a family bathroom. The specification had to hold together consistently across nine house types and three interior palettes, and be delivered on time across a coordinated supply programme.
Salacia's Role
Ben Hayden led the project for Salacia, managing the account from initial specification through to product supply. His role covered product selection, pricing, bespoke specification across all bathroom types and coordinated delivery to suit the Fernham Homes construction programme.
276 bathroom rooms across three room types required careful planning of lead times, delivery phasing and site logistics to keep pace with the build programme. Salacia is managing this process throughout the development, working to ensure all phases are completed on schedule.
Our Solution
The specification is built around a warm, consistent finish carried through all three room types. Sanipex Envoy wall-mounted basins and coordinating WCs were chosen for their clean, contemporary profile and reliable performance across a development of this scale. Teatro brassware in soft bronze runs through all wet areas, from basin mixers and bath controls through to thermostatic concealed shower valves, giving each room a coherent finish from floor to ceiling.
Family bathrooms are anchored by the Kaldewei Eurowa steel bath, chosen for its quality of finish and long-term durability. Basins in the principal en-suites sit on Paragon vanity units with arctic white worktops, paired with a Sanipex countertop basin. Shower trays are Fusion throughout, with Flair shower screens. Storage and mirrors are HIB and Hansgrohe Addstoris in matt black, tying back to the dark accents running through the brassware and screen frames.
The cloakroom takes a different approach. Half-height tiling is lifted by a bold botanical wallpaper above, giving each one a stronger identity than the room size might suggest and demonstrating how a smaller space in a development home can carry the same level of design intent as a principal bathroom.
Results
Salacia's specification and supply for Blean is ongoing, with bathroom packages being delivered across all 92 plots in line with the Fernham Homes construction programme. The specification is being delivered through a single coordinated schdule from product selection through to phased supply on site.
