The Brief
The Crescent is a residential development by Kent-based developer Tolman Homes, comprising nineteen four and five-bedroom townhouses on the site of the former Royal Victoria Hospital in Folkestone.
Salacia was appointed to design and specify the cloakroom, family, and en-suite bathrooms across the development, creating a coordinated collection of bathrooms that complemented the contemporary architecture while appealing to prospective buyers in the premium family home market.
The Project
Each property includes three to four bathrooms alongside a ground-floor cloakroom. The specification needed to balance strong visual appeal with practical considerations for new-build housing: durable materials, a neutral palette, and finishes that would remain timeless rather than trend-led.
A key design feature within the development is the third-floor master suite found in several properties. Here, Salacia has designed an open-plan bathroom in the eaves space incorporating a freestanding bath, double vanity, walk-in shower and discreet WC area - delivering a luxury hotel-style bathroom that enhances the overall appeal of the homes.
The resulting scheme combines high-quality materials and contemporary detailing to deliver bathrooms that feel considered and aspirational, while allowing incoming homeowners the flexibility to personalise the space.
Salacia’s Role
As the originating designer and specification partner, Salacia managed the bathroom package from concept through to delivery. This included initial mood boards and layout drawings, detailed product specification, and coordination of the technical elements required to deliver the designs on site.
The specification process covered every layer of the build, from tanking systems and walk-in shower kits through to brassware, lighting, electrical requirements and finishing details. Salacia also supported the developer with scheduling, call-off planning and coordination between trades to ensure the bathrooms could be installed efficiently within the wider construction programme.
Our Solution
The final specification combines Salacia’s own product ranges with selected partner brands including Lakes Showers and Armera. Across the development, features such as walk in showers, freestanding baths, floor-mounted bath fillers, LED mirrors, brushed stainless steel valves, graphite and black towel rails, and oak fluted vanity units with quartz tops create a cohesive and contemporary finish.
Results
Working with Tolman homes as a specification and technical partner, Salacia delivered all elements of the bathrooms to align with the quality expectations of Tolman Homes modern new-build developments, offering durability for everyday use while presenting the level of finish buyers expect at this price point
