The Project

Working with Interior Designer Kate Malone,  Salacia Design Consultant George Ward designed a unique solution to provide a seamless wet room experience in this Edwardian property in Hawkhurst in Kent.

The bathroom combined the client’s own bespoke bath and niche designs, with Vado brushed gold brassware and Quare countertop basins, balancing contemporary luxury with the period character of the home.

Kate Malone, describes the design ethos across the property:

"Here in the bathroom, porcelain floor tiles marry micro-cement walls – it’s a beautiful waterproof material that leads from one area to the next without interruption. Thoughtful, functional design unlocks every space for modern family life."

Our Solution

The symmetry of the freestanding bath was central to the design, but it created a challenge: concealing the waste pipe without compromising performance.

To overcome this, Salacia engineered two discreet wet room zones with independent drainage. This innovative approach allowed the bath to drain directly onto the floor without visible pipework, maintaining both waterproofing integrity and the intended clean aesthetic.

  • Three wastes were installed beneath the bath and two in the shower zone, all discreetly covered by a continuous floor grill.
  • The system was engineered to handle up to 210 litres per minute - nearly ten times a typical flow rate - providing absolute peace of mind against pooling or overspill.
  • Any residual water naturally flows towards the shower drains, maintaining a clean, efficient design.

This approach delivered a bathroom that feels both spacious and practical, while preserving the visual intention of the client and interior designer.
