The Project
The Gables is a family home in Staplehurst, Kent, where the client came to Salacia with a bathroom brief unlike most. Rather than a scheme built around restraint, she wanted a room that reflected her own distinctive, colourful style, bold, characterful and entirely her own, while also meeting the practical accessibility needs of the household.
The Brief
The brief asked for two things to work in harmony: a genuine design statement and a room that functioned properly for everyday accessibility. The koi and lily pad hexagon tiling, a bold aqua colour palette and warm brass finishes throughout set the tone, while the layout itself needed to be considered every bit as carefully as the finish.
Salacia’s Role
This is exactly the kind of project Salacia loves. The client had a clear and confident vision from the outset, and our design team worked closely with her to bring it to life, translating her personal style into a workable specification without diluting any of its character. Salacia specified and supplied the full bathroom, working the accessibility requirements into the design from the very start rather than treating them as an afterthought.
Our Solution
Vanity
A Salacia Turnstone bespoke vanity, fitted with an Ethereal Glow quartz worktop and a Vitra S20 basin, anchors the room, paired with a Keuco backlit round mirror above.
Brassware
Samuel Heath Style Moderne brassware in Brushed Gold Matt runs throughout, warming the room’s cooler tones and tying together the vanity, shower and WC.
Shower
The shower is enclosed with a Drench Showers fluted glass screen and finished with a fitted seat, built for genuine accessibility without compromising on style. Schluter underfloor heating runs beneath the floor and the shower seat itself, for warmth in every part of the room.
WC
A Victrion WC and high level cistern in Brushed Gold brings a traditional character to the room, in keeping with the client’s eclectic, characterful style.
Tiling
Ca’Pietra Kiyosumi matt hexagon tiles in a striking koi and lily pad design cover the floor and shower walls, delivering the bold, statement finish at the heart of the brief.Penny round gold mosaic tiles used within the shower niches and seat are client sourced.
Heating and Accessories
A Carisa Link towel rail in Gold Satin and a Vogue radiator complete the room, continuing the warm brass finish throughout.
The Results
The finished room is a genuine statement, one that reflects the client’s personality at every turn, while working properly for the household’s accessibility needs. It is a strong example of what Salacia does best: listening closely to a client’s vision and translating it into a specification that is as functional as it is distinctive.
